Well that’s a wrap for 2022, a very different year for myself both on the course and off of it. After 7 years of travelling around Europe including through the Pandemic, it was very strange to be in the UK solidly for a run of months. With the astronomical costs of playing Development Golf in Europe, this year was the first time I’ve been able to move out from my parents house, with rent in Brighton always making it impossible previously. That coupled with the challenge of going from having a full Practice Schedule and numerous practice days at venues before events, to trying to balance Coaching and Playing with 0 practice rounds available before 1 day shootout Pro-Ams around a lot of courses Ive never played.

If I’m honest its not a balance I got right until the end of the year when I moved facilities, going from Burgess Hill GC to Brighton and Hove GC, the former being a horrible place to work with managers and owners not interested in helping find a balance between playing, coaching and the hours in the shop they made us work as rent. Now I’m at Brighton and Hove however my ability to Practice has been aided by a state of the art Swing Studio, fantastic Short Game area and a beautiful Downland Golf Course. 

With all this in mind I end the season feeling pretty content with how I’ve performed, 6 wins, 2 Course Records and the highest income for a single season since I turned Professional has shown me that I can make money playing at this level. 3 of those wins at courses I played blind were particularly impressive, showing that my Course Management is clearly pretty good and that sometimes forcing myself to be more conservative Off the Tee comes with its advantages. I’ve always modelled my game on a decent wedge game and good putting, sometimes when I know the course I get too aggressive and leave myself too many 30-50y pitches which can be hard to control and get close to the hole. The disappointment for me in 2022 was my performances in the multi-day events, such as the OOM Events in the PGA South Region and National PGA events I qualified for. With my experience on Alps Tour, playing longer format golf it was a reminder that if I don’t prepare properly for these longer formats the way I used to my performance isn’t up to my standards. 

With some uncertainty on the schedule for 2023, I have delayed making my full goals and aims for 2023. However, my vision of how I play my best golf has never been clearer. Drive the ball long and straight on a consistent flight, Wedge it close to the hole and Hole putts from mid-range distances. With that in mind my winter work will focus on:

• Long Game- Be able to hit a consistent flight with Driver and Iron Approaches, by developing a Club Path that is left of target, reduce my ClubFace Closure Rate by improving my body motion and become brilliant at controlling distances with my irons. Skill is an important part of this and I will develop games to test this once the Technical Aspects are in place
• Wedges- Become an elite Wedge Player, control distance and flight to allow me to access all pins from inside 125y. 
• Putting- I am already very good inside 7ft because my start line is exceptional, however Pace control and Green Reading in the mid-range aren’t good enough. I will spend a lot of my time over the winter really testing this part of my game so it can perform well in 2023.
