As a professional golfer, the beginning of my season is always an exciting time. It’s a fresh start, a chance to leave last year’s results behind and focus on the year ahead. This year, my season started with a bang – a win at Sunningdale Heath GC in a PGA event, shooting a career low 56, albeit around a Par 58.

I couldn’t have been happier with my performance that day. The conditions were tough, but I managed to stay focused and play some of the best golf of my career. Sunningdale Heath has 14 Par 3’s but many of them are over 200 yards and with tiny undulating greens any score under par there is a very good score. It was a great way to kick off the season and set the tone for what was to come.

However, my next event at Sunningdale didn’t go quite as planned. I entered the prestigious Sunningdale Foursomes with high hopes, but unfortunately, me and my partner were eliminated in the first round by two Challenge Tour players. The game was classic match play with us taking an early lead, Dave my partner hitting 4i into the Par 5 first to 9 foot, however we were 1 down through 5. We then won 6 & 7 but lost the 9th to be tied, as a Pro/Am partnership up against 2 Professionals we had 1 shot and used it to take the lead again on the 12th, a clutch par putt from our opponents on the next kept it at 1 up before we scrambled a miracle Par out of the hazard on the 14th. They then upped it a gear and birdied 15 and 16 to take the lead once again, before a birdie from us on 17 kept the match alive. It wasn’t to be up 18 as a Par won it for them but our score would have beaten most pairings on the day so it was a tough pill to swallow. A lot of positives were taken from that event in my own game and I knew I just needed to keep working hard as my game was trending in the right direction.

And that’s exactly what I did. I continued to work hard on my game, focusing on the process of getting a little better each day. And it paid off in a big way at the TPG Charity Pro-Am at Burhill.

The conditions were incredibly challenging that day, with strong winds and difficult pin positions. But I managed to stay patient and grind out a level par round, which was good enough for the win. It was a great feeling to bounce back after the disappointment at Sunningdale and prove to myself that I when I play well I can compete at a very high level.

Looking back on the beginning of my season, I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished so far. But I know there’s still a long way to go. I’ll continue to work hard, stay focused, and take it one shot at a time. Who knows what the rest of the season holds? All I know is that I’m ready for whatever comes my way.
