Warm Up for the 2023 Season Begins: My journey to achieve my goals.
As summer approaches (albeit slowly) I am gearing up for the start of my 2023 season, with the Sunningdale Foursomes, a prestigious tournament scheduled to take place from March 7th to 10th. With a busy schedule of competitions ahead, I am determined to be at my best and achieve my goals for the 2023 season.
To ensure further ensure I am firing on all cylinders this season, I recently visited GRF expert and Speed coach Steve Furlonger for some additional preparation. Furlonger is well-known in the golf world for his expertise in Ground Reaction Forces and works with some of the best players around the world, I was eager to benefit from his experience and knowledge. With Steve’s guidance, I know have an even deeper knowledge of my own motion and the areas that have contributed to some poor shots in the past. I have already seen big changes in my Swing and now the task of building skill while maintaining these changes begins.
As I head into the season, I have set some ambitious goals for 2023. First and foremost, I am aiming to make the PGA Cup team, an honour that would recognize me as one of the top golfers in the country. I know that competition will be fierce, but I am confident in my abilities and am willing to put in the work to achieve this goal. In addition to my aspirations for the PGA Cup team, I also have my sights set on playing in the British Open, one of the most prestigious events in golf. The tournament attracts some of the biggest names in the sport, and James is excited about the prospect of testing his skills against them. Having known 3 or 4 players to compete in the Open in the past few years, it’s high on my list of Goals.
Finally, I am also working towards securing at least a Challenge Tour card for the 2024 season. The Challenge Tour is a developmental tour for professional golfers, providing them with the opportunity to gain experience and earn their way onto the European Tour. For me, earning a Challenge Tour card would be a significant step forward in my career, and something I never quite managed to do when playing on Alps Tour. There are 3 main ways I can achieve this, Q-School at the end of the year, Clutch Tour Tier 1 OOM and by gaining invites to events in the 2023 Season and keeping my card by earning enough points in those events.
To achieve these goals, I have ramped up my training and practice regimen while maintaining what worked well for me when playing Full-Time before. I’m focused on regaining some of the speed I’d lost, fine-tuning the technique changes in my swing, and sharpening up my short game to where it used to sit. I’m also working with my long time coach, Ryan Fenwick, to identify areas where I can improve and develop new strategies for success.
As I head into the Sunningdale Foursomes tournament and beyond, I am confident in my abilities and excited about the challenges and opportunities ahead. I know that success in golf requires hard work, dedication, and perseverance, but I am ready to give it my all and see where my talent and determination can take me. With a strong support system, a solid training regimen, and a clear set of goals, I’m hopeful for a successful 2023 season and beyond.
As always thanks for your continued support in following my Journey!
James
